Irene & Reed
Irene & Reed perform original music blending elements of piano pop, jazz, and soul for a sultry, sepia-toned sound. “[They're] sultry with a classic edge … a mix between Sara Bareilles and Greta Garbo … modern meets the Golden Age of Hollywood.” — Krista Detor, singer-songwriter
Irene & Reed (June 2009 - present) are an original American blues, jazz, and pop band formed by Indianapolis, Indiana-based singer-songwriters Leslie Irene Benson (Burning Veda) and local music veteran Jason Reed Milner (Nimbus, Form 30, and Seven Mile Radius).
Backed by Brad Milner, a drummer, bassist, and sound engineer working for Sony Tree Studio, in Nashville, Tennessee, the Milner brothers mixed Irene & Reed’s debut album, 'Closer to Home,' in November 2009, finishing it in Indianapolis, and releasing it digitally and in hard copy in March 2010. With lyrics based off poems penned by Benson, the lyrics pay tribute to childhood and to memories of home.
After the release of 'Closer to Home,' Irene & Reed added Indianapolis-based drummer and backing vocalist Eddie Venable (Second Fiddle, Placebo, Bone Daddie) to the repertoire. The full four-piece band played its debut concert at Birdy’s Bar & Grill in Indianapolis, on December 1, 2010, and has been performing live ever since. A second full-length album is in the works, set for release in 2011.
Members: Leslie Irene Benson: vocals, lyrics, flute, guitar; Jason Reed Milner: keyboards, piano, guitar; Eddie Venable: drums, percussion, backing vocals.
