Music Genre(s):

I have been acquainted with many styles over the years, thanks to the various bands, ensembles, and instructors that I've had. Rock, R&B, Jazz, Funk, Folk, Country, Indie, Classical, Hip Hop, Electronica, and Christian music are a few of these, however there are many others that I enjoy listening to and learning from. Some of my favorite artists/musicians (not in order): - Bruce Hornsby - Billy Preston - Elton John - Tom Petty - Michael Jackson - Bruce Springsteen - The Beach Boys - AC/DC - The Beatles - Ben Folds - Wilco - Bleu - John Mayer - Sigur Ros - Loney Dear - Lee Ann Womack - Vince Gill - Coldplay - The Damnwells - Kathleen Edwards - Ray Charles - Rick James - Norah Jones - Passion Pit - Queen - Radiohead - Rufus Wainwright - Stevie Wonder - Tom Waits

I don't remember much from when I was 4 years old, but I do remember going to my grandparents' house in Michigan for the holidays and watching/listening to my uncle play our favorite Christmas songs on the piano. When he would finish, I would sit down and put my index fingers to use on some of the simple melodies that I was able to pick up. My parents started me in piano lessons shortly thereafter. I took up drumming as a secondary instrument in Junior High and hoped to become a rockstar someday. That hasn't really panned out the way my 14 year old mind had hoped, but I'm becoming more content with my musical world with every passing day. Growing up, I kept a journal. It wasn't exactly the "popular" thing to do or talk about doing at the time, so I kept it quiet but continued scribbling down my thoughts as I needed to. I started putting my ramblings to music in my late teenage years and it quickly became a passion. It's one way of digesting, venting, questioning, learning, and moving on from my life experiences. This world makes it easy for us to forget who we are and what we stand for at times. My number one goal as a songwriter and human being will always be to remain authentic and encourage others to do the same thing. Making music is not about being recognized by the masses or making tons of money. It's about making music that is true to who we are as individuals. A successful musician isn't necessarily a popular one, and a popular musician isn't necessarily a successful one.
