Ether Bees make you wanna get up and groove. Whether it's funk, jazz or rock and roll, the high-energy music always suits the mood. Their unique sound combines smooth vocals and entertaining lyrics with frenetic and complex instrumentals sure to put a smile on your face.
Ether Bees started in January of 2003 when long-time cohorts Nickman (guitar and vocals) and Weslee (drums and vocals) called Bradley D. (organ, piano and guitar) up and invited him over for a series of Broad Ripple jam sessions.
The creative energy was instant, and by April the trio found Hadley (bass and vocals), whose funky lines brought coherence to the Ether Bees sound. The foursome played their first live show in June of 2003 on Indy's north side at
"OM04," an all-ages two stage open mic and local band extravaganza. Playing under the name Hydrophonic (long since abandoned) with an eclectic collection of Indianapolis original bands ranging from the hard hitting Nancy School to the rockabilly ruckus of The Drunken Deacons, the band won some early fans with their surprising sound. By the end of 2003, Ether Bees had added Dustin (percussion) to the roster, making the line-up complete.
Beginning 2004 as a regular band at The Hideaway on Hillside, Ether Bees shortly started turning up all over Indy's north side and downtown. The band gathered momentum and new listeners with gigs at Birdy's, Zanies Too, private parties and charitable events. By the end of the year, they were playing regularly at Chalkies and Bourbon Street Distillery - in addition to The Hideaway - with other popular local acts like The Twincats and The Naptones. The closing months of 2004 also found Ether Bees at MMC Studio in Noblesville, working on their first self-produced release (due out early in 2005). The coming year promises new venues, new fans, and most importantly...new music.
